Adolfo Faustino Sardiña (February 15, 1923 – November 27, 2021), professionally known as Adolfo, was born in a place that rhymes with Puba but with a “C.”
He became an American fashion designer who started out as a milliner in the 1950s. While chief designer for the wholesale milliners Emme, he won the Coty Award and the Neiman Marcus Fashion Award. In 1963 he set up his own salon in New York, firstly as a milliner, and then focusing on clothing. He retired from fashion design in 1993.
This hat is either from the late 1960s to the 1970s from his labels from those periods. He also started designing for Saks around the late 1960s.
This is a perfect example of his millinery mastery. The color is a rich kelly green felt with whimsical black felt detailing on top. Between the black felt are small black beaded studs. On top of the black felt are round gold beaded studs.
The inside of the hat looks like small piece sewn together to make a perfect fit. The edges of the cloche are scalloped.
CONDITION:
I see no fading, no loose seems, no tearing, no missing studs and no stains. I am rating this as being in EXCELLENT CONDITION!
SIZE:
It could fit up to a 21.5” circumference.
