Gorgeous 1930s black fur felt hat by Merrimac for Mary Mogel Boutique of Chicago. I looked up Mary Mogel and found this obituary:
“Mary Mogel, 86, former owner of Mary Mogel Boutique in Chicago, died Sunday in St. Joseph`s Hospital. Mrs. Mogel, a Lake View resident, owned and operated the boutique for more than 50 years.”
This skull cap hat is chic like no other. It’s a one size fits all. The hat has 3 felt bows on either side over the ears.
The inside edge is lined with black grosgrain. The label says “Mary Mogel, 15 E. Washington St, Chicago.”
There is also a stamp inside that says “Merrimac, Superior” and then “Fur Felt.” Merrimac was a high end felt millinery company as this internet search describes:
“Merrimac Hat Company, a prominent hat manufacturer in the 19th and 20th centuries, known for their high-quality, often felt, hats. The company's history is intertwined with the development of the felt hat industry, particularly the use of materials like beaver felt.”
CONDITION: This hat is in EXCELLENT condition. No fading, chews, holes or any other issues found.
SIZE: One size fits all.
