Vintage 1940s Gaberdine Suit 28 Waist Sm Med

$228.00

Shipping to United States: $6.95

This is a vintage 1940s wool gabardine suit jacket in a taupe color. They do not make suits this well anymore.

The jacket has a classic 1940s wartime fitted cut and a nipped, hourglass waist achieved through tailored darting.

The material appears to be wool gabardine, known for its durable, twill weave with a distinct vertical texture.

Collar and Fastenings: It has a prominent, wide, notched or "winged" collar. The front fastens with a single row of five round buttons matching the fabric color.

These fabric buttons are beautiful and no longer made this way. Another art lost to the assembly line manufacturing today.

The jacket includes curved pocket details at the hips and long sleeves.

The suit has padded shoulders to enhance the 1940s silhouette.

the skirt zips on the side and has it’s original zipper.

The flap pockets have a cross-cross design which matches the same design on the collar flaps.

The inside lining is a dark rust either rayon or silk fabric.

There is a label on the back collar that says Walton’s, then below 743 Broad St, Newark, N.J. I do not know if this is the maker or the shop that sold the suit or both.

There is also a small union label on the inside bodice where the lining begins. See photos.

MEASUREMENTS:

JACKET:

Shoulders: 16”
Bust: 20” x 2
Waist: 15” x 2

Top of shoulder to cuff: 23”

SKIRT:

Waist: 14” x 2

CONDITION:

The suit has no stains, tears, rips, moth holes or smells. The only issue I see is the inside lining has a slight darker look on the lower back and the underarms are a bit lighter. As this is the inside lining it is not visible.

I am rating this suit as being in EXCELLENT minus condition.
