This is an elegant black silk velvet opera coat from the late 1930s. These garments were designed to be worn over elaborate floor-length gowns without crushing them, offering both warmth and high-fashion drama.

The coat is crafted from plush, high-quality silk velvet blend. It features the era's signature slim, floor-length silhouette that flares slightly toward the hem.

A defining element of this piece is its oversized white ermine fur collar. This collar can be pulled up for a dramatic effect.

The coat has the late 1930s strong, puffed shoulders and full "mutton" sleeves that taper elegantly down to the wrist.

The coat has a large velvet-covered button at the neck and one at the waist. There is an extra button under the collar.

The interior is a creamy white viscose lining.

CONDITION:

The velvet is strong, dark black and in EXCELLENT condition, no flaws to note. The ermine collar is in soft, supple, EXCELLENT condition. Absolutely no shedding.

The lining is in EXCELLENT minus condition with a couple light brown spots and very slight shade variance on the underarms. There are no seam openings, tears, or smells.
