This 1950s novelty print day dress is a classic example of a mid-century "shirtwaist" or house dress. The background is a cream color with a black novelty print design. Flowers in square boxes.
The dress features a structured bodice with a collared neckline and short sleeves. The waist is defined with belt loops. The dress is shown with a black belt shown that is not included.
The front has a functional button-down closure featuring large, prominent buttons. I am not sure what type material it is. Either lucite, Bakelite or some form of plastic.
The dress has two pockets; on the bodice and the skirt, both with cute “v” shaped flaps.
The fabric is a rayon cellulose material called “Calanese” which is shown on the “George Hess”
label. Calanese was invented in 1900 but was used extensively in the 1950s.
CONDITION:
I see no issues with this dress except the missing belt. There are no tears, holes, stains, rips, or smells. I am rating it as being in EXCELLENT condition.
