This classic 1940s day dress is a quintessential example of wartime-era fashion. The fabric is a black rayon crepe. The fabric, often called "cold rayon," was a popular, affordable alternative to silk during WWII due to its fluid drape and breathable, cool-to-the-touch feel. The dress is black with a white floral pattern.
The bodice has a v-neck that also buttons in the back of the neck with 4 small fabric buttons. The shoulders have small ruffles which sort of give a padded shoulder look.
The bodice features soft gathering and shirring at the waist, which creates a natural drape through the bust. It is shown styled with a contrasting olive-green belt to further define the waistline.
The dress has a peplum skirt that drapes to the right side. On the same side the dress there is a side zipper.
CONDITION:
The dress has a few tiny issues and this is reflected in the price:
One of the fabric buttons at the top has a small rip. This is common with very old fabric. These buttons can be exchanged for small black buttons of the same size or the button recovered with fabric from the hem.
The dress belt is part suede in an army green color. The belt is in great shape although the suede looks slightly worn on the edges.
The dress has two pin holes. One is a pin prick size on the outside skirt near the edge of the drape.
The other is under the drape and cannot be seen. On addition there is a tiny stain. This cannot be seen either. This is seen in one of the pics above.
