Vintage Late 1940s Early 1950s Straw Floral Hat by Schiaparelli

I almost died and went to heaven when I found this incredible straw summer hat by Elsa Schiaparelli. For anyone who may not know, here is a blurb from Wikipedia on this great designer:

Elsa Schiaparelli (/skæpəˈrɛli/ skap-ə-REL-ee;[1] Italian: [ɛlsa skjapaˈrɛlli]; 1890–1973) was an Italian fashion designer. Along with Coco Chanel, her greatest rival, she is regarded as one of the most prominent figures in fashion between the two World Wars.[2] Starting with knitwear, Schiaparelli's designs were heavily influenced by Surrealists like her collaborators Salvador Dalí and Jean Cocteau. Her clients included the heiress Daisy Fellowes and actress Mae West. Schiaparelli did not adapt to the changes in fashion following World War II and her couture house closed in 1954.

This hat is just a beautiful example of her work. There is a small sticker on the inside crown that says “Made in Italy.” The design crisscrosses in the back in a v formation. There is a avocado green velvet ribbon on the brine which is covered in red, violet and blue silk flowers and green leaves.

As best I can measure it’s a size 21” circumference. The crown is 4” high and the front brim is 4.5” long.

CONDITION: The hat is in incredible condition. The flowers and leaves are intact and there is absolutely no damage to the straw. I am rating this as being in EXCELLENT CONDITION.

Mint: Never worn or used. No flaws or wear.
Near Mint: Possibly worn with little to no signs of wear and no flaws.
Excellent: Previously worn or used with no noticeable flaws.
Very Good: Previously worn with noted minor flaws not noticeable for wear.
Good: Minor flaws as noted. Wearable. Minor repairs required.
Good-aged: Overall good condition, either a little faded, or just looks "tired."
Fair: Numerous noted flaws, possibly wearable after care or repair.
Poor: Damage which cannot be repaired. Possible use as study piece or cutter.

These items are decades old. I go over each item with a fine tooth comb and describe everything I find in the listing, As a result, these items are considered "As is" with no refunds offered. However, if there is something glaringly wrong that I have overlooked, a return may be possible. In addition, if you find yourself extremely miserable with your item, I will consider a store credit on a case by case issue.
